The Barn & Vineyard weddings

The Barn & Vineyard wedding photographer & videographer

Photography and film for The Barn & Vineyard weddings, planned around the light at The Barn & Vineyard and the walking between spots. Photography from $1,000, videography from $650, both from $1,100. Travel inside the Chicago metro is included.

About the venue

An honest planning note

The Barn & Vineyard is at 3433 E Brunswick Rd, Beecher, IL 60401, about 35 miles south of the Loop in a straight line. Its website describes an indoor and outdoor modern-rustic venue with a five-acre vineyard, a two-level barn with high ceilings, a ceremony site inside the vineyard, two bridal prep areas and seating for up to 300 on the main floor.

The vineyard runs its own wedding and photography rules, so start with the vineyard itself for what is allowed on your date. Below is how we would plan the photos: the light, the spots, a sample day and what it costs.

Planning the photos

A ceremony in the vinesAn outdoor ceremony site means open sky over everyone. The harsher the sun, the harder the shadows on faces, so the last column of the table below is the one to use when you set your ceremony time.
No towers, a full sunsetOut here nothing blocks the low sun, so golden hour runs its whole length. Rows of vines catch that light well, so we would save them for the last half hour before sunset.
Brick, wood and bistro lightsThe venue describes brick and wood accents and bistro lighting in its cocktail lounge. Those warm tones look great at dusk. We keep faces turned toward the softest light so the bulbs stay in the background.
The drive is part of the planIt is a long way from downtown, so a hotel near the venue or getting ready in the bridal suites saves real time. Ask the venue how early you can be there on your date.

When the light is at its best

Computed for the venue's own location, on the Saturday nearest the 15th of each month. Central time. Shaded rows are the main wedding season.

Sample timeline

A June Saturday in the vineyard

A starting point, not a rule. Our timeline builder makes one for your real date.

  • 3:30 PM Getting ready photos and details
  • 5:00 PM First look and wedding party photos in the shade
  • 6:00 PM Guests arrive, we cover the ceremony space
  • 6:30 PM Ceremony (30 minutes)
  • 7:00 PM Family photos close to the ceremony spot
  • 7:42 PM Golden hour portraits, two or three spots
  • 8:24 PM Sunset, then into the reception
  • Getting ready nearby? From the Loop it is roughly 35 miles, and slower on Saturday afternoons. Leave real buffer before the first look.
  • Every move between spots costs time on foot. Two or three portrait spots close together beat a tour of the vineyard.

Questions

Good to know

Do you photograph and film weddings at The Barn & Vineyard?

Yes. The Barn & Vineyard is in Beecher, in Will County, south of the city, inside the Chicago metro, so travel is included. Photography, videography or both together are priced up front on this page.

Have you shot at The Barn & Vineyard before?

Ask us when you check your date. If we have not worked there before, we scout it ahead of your day so we know the light, the walking times and the backup spots.

Do we need a permit for photos at The Barn & Vineyard?

The vineyard sets its own rules for wedding and portrait photography, and they can change by season. Check with The Barn & Vineyard directly before you plan around a spot. We work inside whatever they allow.

What time is golden hour at The Barn & Vineyard?

On the Saturday nearest June 15 golden hour starts at 7:42 PM and the sun sets at 8:24 PM. On the Saturday nearest October 15 it starts at 5:28 PM with sunset at 6:05 PM. The table above has every month.

How many hours of coverage do we need?

Six hours covers getting ready through the start of the reception for most weddings here. Eight hours covers the whole day through the dance floor. Walking between spots adds time, so lean longer rather than shorter.

How do we book, and do we need a deposit?

Send your date and venue through Check your date. We reply within a day with availability and the package that fits. A small deposit holds your date and goes toward your total. The rest is split into monthly payments that run automatically, and everything is paid a month before the wedding.
