Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk weddings

Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk wedding photographer & videographer

Photography and film for Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk weddings, planned around the light at Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk and the walking between spots. Photography from $1,000, videography from $650, both from $1,100. Travel inside the Chicago metro is included.

About the venue

An honest planning note

Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk is at 301 E North Water St, Chicago, IL 60611, about 1 mile northeast of the Loop in a straight line. Its public listing calls it a hotel, wedding venue and event venue on the north bank of the Chicago River, just west of the lake.

The hotel runs its own wedding and photography rules, so start with the hotel itself for what is allowed on your date. Below is how we would plan the photos: the light, the spots, a sample day and what it costs.

Planning the photos

Everything under one roofGetting ready, ceremony, portraits and reception can all happen in one building, so nobody loses an hour to traffic. That time goes back into the day: a calmer first look, more family photos, or a walk outside at golden hour.
The river and the RiverwalkThe river and the walk along it are right outside. The Riverwalk is public, so on a nice weekend it is busy; early afternoon or a short walk away from the crowds keeps the background clean. Ask the hotel and the city what is allowed for photos there.
Towers cut the sun earlyDowntown, the tall buildings block the low sun well before sunset, so golden hour on the street ends early. Looking west down the river is where the last light shows up between the towers, so we plan the evening portraits for that view.
City lights after darkAfter sunset the bridges and skyline light up, and that blue hour is the best few minutes of the night for a city wedding. Plan five minutes out of the reception for it; we keep it quick so you are back before the next toast.

Sample timeline

A June Saturday in the hotel

A starting point, not a rule. Our timeline builder makes one for your real date.

  • 3:30 PM Getting ready photos and details
  • 5:00 PM First look and wedding party photos in the shade
  • 6:00 PM Guests arrive, we cover the ceremony space
  • 6:30 PM Ceremony (30 minutes)
  • 7:00 PM Family photos close to the ceremony spot
  • 7:44 PM Golden hour portraits, two or three spots
  • 8:26 PM Sunset, then into the reception
  • Getting ready nearby? From the Loop it is roughly 1 miles, and slower on Saturday afternoons. Leave real buffer before the first look.
  • Every move between spots costs time on foot. Two or three portrait spots close together beat a tour of the hotel.

Questions

Good to know

Do you photograph and film weddings at Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk?

Yes. Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk is in Chicago, on the Chicago River downtown, inside the Chicago metro, so travel is included. Photography, videography or both together are priced up front on this page.

Have you shot at Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk before?

Ask us when you check your date. If we have not worked there before, we scout it ahead of your day so we know the light, the walking times and the backup spots.

Do we need a permit for photos at Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk?

The hotel sets its own rules for wedding and portrait photography, and they can change by season. Check with Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk directly before you plan around a spot. We work inside whatever they allow.

What time is golden hour at Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk?

On the Saturday nearest June 15 golden hour starts at 7:44 PM and the sun sets at 8:26 PM. On the Saturday nearest October 15 it starts at 5:27 PM with sunset at 6:05 PM. The table above has every month.

How many hours of coverage do we need?

Six hours covers getting ready through the start of the reception for most weddings here. Eight hours covers the whole day through the dance floor. Walking between spots adds time, so lean longer rather than shorter.

How do we book, and do we need a deposit?

Send your date and venue through Check your date. We reply within a day with availability and the package that fits. A small deposit holds your date and goes toward your total. The rest is split into monthly payments that run automatically, and everything is paid a month before the wedding.
