Lincoln Park Conservatory weddings

Lincoln Park Conservatory wedding photographer & videographer

Photography and film for Lincoln Park Conservatory weddings, planned around the light at Lincoln Park Conservatory and the walking between spots. Photography from $1,000, videography from $650, both from $1,100. Travel inside the Chicago metro is included.

About the venue

An honest planning note

Lincoln Park Conservatory is at 2391 N Stockton Dr, Chicago, IL 60614, about 3 miles north of the Loop in a straight line. Its public listing describes thousands of exotic plants in an 1890 glass structure, plus outdoor gardens and fountains. The listing also says reservations are required to visit.

The conservatory runs its own wedding and photography rules, so start with the conservatory itself for what is allowed on your date. Below is how we would plan the photos: the light, the spots, a sample day and what it costs.

Portrait spots

Planning the photos

Soft light under old glassThe glass house spreads daylight evenly, so indoor portraits work at almost any hour, even midday. Skin tones stay clean and nobody squints.
Small rooms, plan the crowdThe plant rooms are close together and the building is popular. Pick one or two rooms for portraits and keep the group small inside, then do the big family photos outdoors.
Gardens and fountains out frontThe formal garden and fountains outside give a classic look and open sky for golden hour. Save them for the last half hour before sunset.
The park and the lake are closeLincoln Park around the building has lawns, the zoo paths and the lakefront a short walk east. The lakefront faces east, so it is best for soft evening glow after sunset rather than the sun going down over the water.
Golden hour at Lincoln Park Conservatory

When the light is at its best

Computed for the venue's own location, on the Saturday nearest the 15th of each month. Central time. Shaded rows are the main wedding season.

Sample timeline

A June Saturday in the conservatory

A starting point, not a rule. Our timeline builder makes one for your real date.

  • 3:30 PM Getting ready photos and details
  • 5:00 PM First look and wedding party photos in the shade
  • 6:00 PM Guests arrive, we cover the ceremony space
  • 6:30 PM Ceremony (30 minutes)
  • 7:00 PM Family photos close to the ceremony spot
  • 7:44 PM Golden hour portraits, two or three spots
  • 8:26 PM Sunset, then into the reception
  • Getting ready nearby? From the Loop it is roughly 3 miles, and slower on Saturday afternoons. Leave real buffer before the first look.
  • Every move between spots costs time on foot. Two or three portrait spots close together beat a tour of the conservatory.

Questions

Good to know

Do you photograph and film weddings at Lincoln Park Conservatory?

Yes. Lincoln Park Conservatory is in Chicago, in Lincoln Park on the North Side, inside the Chicago metro, so travel is included. Photography, videography or both together are priced up front on this page.

Have you shot at Lincoln Park Conservatory before?

Ask us when you check your date. If we have not worked there before, we scout it ahead of your day so we know the light, the walking times and the backup spots.

Do we need a permit for photos at Lincoln Park Conservatory?

The conservatory sets its own rules for wedding and portrait photography, and they can change by season. Check with Lincoln Park Conservatory directly before you plan around a spot. We work inside whatever they allow.

What time is golden hour at Lincoln Park Conservatory?

On the Saturday nearest June 15 golden hour starts at 7:44 PM and the sun sets at 8:26 PM. On the Saturday nearest October 15 it starts at 5:27 PM with sunset at 6:05 PM. The table above has every month.

How many hours of coverage do we need?

Six hours covers getting ready through the start of the reception for most weddings here. Eight hours covers the whole day through the dance floor. Walking between spots adds time, so lean longer rather than shorter.

How do we book, and do we need a deposit?

Send your date and venue through Check your date. We reply within a day with availability and the package that fits. A small deposit holds your date and goes toward your total. The rest is split into monthly payments that run automatically, and everything is paid a month before the wedding.
