Le Loft weddings

Le Loft wedding photographer & videographer

Photography and film for Le Loft weddings, planned around the light at Le Loft and the walking between spots. Photography from $1,000, videography from $650, both from $1,100. Travel inside the Chicago metro is included.

About the venue

An honest planning note

Le Loft is at 2418 W North Ave #2, Chicago, IL 60647, about 4 miles northwest of the Loop in a straight line. Its website describes a 4,800 square foot space in Wicker Park, split into an East side and a West side, with floor-to-ceiling factory windows and hardwood floors. It lists up to 70 guests for a seated wedding dinner or 90 cocktail style, with wedding access from noon to 11 PM.

The loft runs its own wedding and photography rules, so start with the loft itself for what is allowed on your date. Below is how we would plan the photos: the light, the spots, a sample day and what it costs.

Portrait spots

Planning the photos

Two sides, two moodsThe venue calls the East side bright and airy, and the West side has a permanent dance floor. That split makes it easy to keep daylight portraits on one side and the party on the other, with no room flip in the middle of the day.
Factory windows do the workTall windows give soft, flattering daylight. A few steps from the glass is where portraits and getting ready photos look best. Once the sun is down the windows stop helping and we bring our own light.
Bold walls color the lightStrongly colored walls bounce their color onto skin when you stand close to them. We keep faces a few feet away, or face you toward the windows, so skin tones stay true and the wall still shows up behind you.
Plan golden hour on the streetThe venue site does not list an outdoor space, so golden hour means a short walk through Wicker Park. Access starts at noon, so build getting ready and the walk around that window.

Sample timeline

A June Saturday in the loft

A starting point, not a rule. Our timeline builder makes one for your real date.

  • 3:30 PM Getting ready photos and details
  • 5:00 PM First look and wedding party photos in the shade
  • 6:00 PM Guests arrive, we cover the ceremony space
  • 6:30 PM Ceremony (30 minutes)
  • 7:00 PM Family photos close to the ceremony spot
  • 7:44 PM Golden hour portraits, two or three spots
  • 8:27 PM Sunset, then into the reception
  • Getting ready nearby? From the Loop it is roughly 4 miles, and slower on Saturday afternoons. Leave real buffer before the first look.
  • Every move between spots costs time on foot. Two or three portrait spots close together beat a tour of the loft.

Questions

Good to know

Do you photograph and film weddings at Le Loft?

Yes. Le Loft is in Chicago, in Wicker Park, inside the Chicago metro, so travel is included. Photography, videography or both together are priced up front on this page.

Have you shot at Le Loft before?

Ask us when you check your date. If we have not worked there before, we scout it ahead of your day so we know the light, the walking times and the backup spots.

Do we need a permit for photos at Le Loft?

The loft sets its own rules for wedding and portrait photography, and they can change by season. Check with Le Loft directly before you plan around a spot. We work inside whatever they allow.

What time is golden hour at Le Loft?

On the Saturday nearest June 15 golden hour starts at 7:44 PM and the sun sets at 8:27 PM. On the Saturday nearest October 15 it starts at 5:27 PM with sunset at 6:05 PM. The table above has every month.

How many hours of coverage do we need?

Six hours covers getting ready through the start of the reception for most weddings here. Eight hours covers the whole day through the dance floor. Walking between spots adds time, so lean longer rather than shorter.

How do we book, and do we need a deposit?

Send your date and venue through Check your date. We reply within a day with availability and the package that fits. A small deposit holds your date and goes toward your total. The rest is split into monthly payments that run automatically, and everything is paid a month before the wedding.
