Garfield Park Conservatory weddings

Garfield Park Conservatory wedding photographer & videographer

Photography and film for Garfield Park Conservatory weddings, planned around the light at Garfield Park Conservatory and the walking between spots. Photography from $1,000, videography from $650, both from $1,100. Travel inside the Chicago metro is included.

About the venue

An honest planning note

Garfield Park Conservatory is at 300 N Central Park Ave, Chicago, IL 60624, about 5 miles west of the Loop in a straight line. Its public listing calls it a botanical garden and park on the West Side: plant rooms under glass, with outdoor gardens and the park around the building.

The conservatory runs its own wedding and photography rules, so start with the conservatory itself for what is allowed on your date. Below is how we would plan the photos: the light, the spots, a sample day and what it costs.

Portrait spots

Planning the photos

Glass means soft light all dayUnder a glass roof the light is spread out and even, so portraits indoors work at almost any hour. That makes the conservatory one of the few places where a midday ceremony still gives clean skin tones.
Green walls, close togetherThe plant rooms give you deep green backgrounds a few steps apart. Pick two rooms for portraits, not the whole building, so you are not walking through crowds on a public day.
Warm and humid insideTropical rooms run warm and damp. Camera lenses fog for a few minutes coming in from the cold, and hair and makeup feel it too. We plan the indoor portraits after the lenses settle and before anyone wilts.
Outdoor gardens for golden hourThe outdoor gardens and the park around the building are where the evening light is. Save a short walk outside for the last half hour before sunset, then head to the reception.

Sample timeline

A June Saturday in the conservatory

A starting point, not a rule. Our timeline builder makes one for your real date.

  • 3:30 PM Getting ready photos and details
  • 5:00 PM First look and wedding party photos in the shade
  • 6:00 PM Guests arrive, we cover the ceremony space
  • 6:30 PM Ceremony (30 minutes)
  • 7:00 PM Family photos close to the ceremony spot
  • 7:44 PM Golden hour portraits, two or three spots
  • 8:27 PM Sunset, then into the reception
  • Getting ready nearby? From the Loop it is roughly 5 miles, and slower on Saturday afternoons. Leave real buffer before the first look.
  • Every move between spots costs time on foot. Two or three portrait spots close together beat a tour of the conservatory.

Questions

Good to know

Do you photograph and film weddings at Garfield Park Conservatory?

Yes. Garfield Park Conservatory is in Chicago, on the West Side of the city, inside the Chicago metro, so travel is included. Photography, videography or both together are priced up front on this page.

Have you shot at Garfield Park Conservatory before?

Ask us when you check your date. If we have not worked there before, we scout it ahead of your day so we know the light, the walking times and the backup spots.

Do we need a permit for photos at Garfield Park Conservatory?

The conservatory sets its own rules for wedding and portrait photography, and they can change by season. Check with Garfield Park Conservatory directly before you plan around a spot. We work inside whatever they allow.

What time is golden hour at Garfield Park Conservatory?

On the Saturday nearest June 15 golden hour starts at 7:44 PM and the sun sets at 8:27 PM. On the Saturday nearest October 15 it starts at 5:28 PM with sunset at 6:06 PM. The table above has every month.

How many hours of coverage do we need?

Six hours covers getting ready through the start of the reception for most weddings here. Eight hours covers the whole day through the dance floor. Walking between spots adds time, so lean longer rather than shorter.

How do we book, and do we need a deposit?

Send your date and venue through Check your date. We reply within a day with availability and the package that fits. A small deposit holds your date and goes toward your total. The rest is split into monthly payments that run automatically, and everything is paid a month before the wedding.
